inglês pra você

Hopefully there's still english speaking friends that frequently look at this blog, since I haven't written anything for you lately. Half of my time here is gone now and I'm rapidly moving towards the end. I'm very glad to know that soon I'll be back in Germany. But the internship and the life here in Sao Joao da Boa Vista has been and is great and I couldn't imagine it to be better. The company shows a lot of respect to me and let's me show them, how I would do stuff. This morning we had a meeting with all the leaders of the different process lines. My boss, leader of the process control department quoted me a lot when he was telling them how he wants to improve the production. I'm also doing research right now to help the company with a process dealing with special problems of particle technology. Since most of the companies that sell machines are from germany, the company believes that I would be here not as a learning trainee but as some kind of consultant. This would all not be possible if my education in Germany wasn't that great. Here in Brazil the quality of the universities (except Universidade de Sao Paulo and Uni Campinas) is not very good. Most of the engineers here in the company work very unscientifically and don't care about any numbers to judge a process. All the production here is not based on theoretical viewpoints only on experience. This experience I believe is very valuable but if you connect it with some theory you can make a process more efficient, productive and with a higher quality at a lower cost.
Anyhow, enough about work. I also have a life here. As you can see on the pictures from last week I also went to the beach with my boss and his wife. It was really nice to be able to see other parts of this country besides Sao Joao. Every saturday morning, you can also notice that on the pictures, I'm playing soccer with these soccer-crazy people. I'm usually in the defence since I need to attack rather than handling the ball, which I'm really bad in. But most of the german hobby-kickers would definitely be able to compete with the guys over here.

As you can see the wildlife here is also very nice even though I life in a city of 80.000 inhabitants. But most of the animals (besides insects and birds) are the many dogs that walk themselves here. I don't even need an alarm in the morning since they are chasing each other across the streets with the beautiful and relaxing sound of different styles of barking. At least they don't care abou chasing people.

Well, less than 6 weeks left for me. Check again for new information on my internship here. Thank you very much for being out there and caring for what I do.

Your Martin
